An Attorney Who Has Walked In Your Shoes

Now is the time to think about your child’s winter holiday break

Every parent who has a child in school has to figure out what they’re going to do during the winter holiday break. This break is often two weeks long, and deciding how children will spend that time can be complicated for any parent. It becomes even more complex when the parents aren’t together.

Even though there’s still a bit of time before winter break happens, now is the best time to start reviewing things and making plans for the children. Consider these points to get you started.

Plan for childcare needs

If your children are going to need care during the winter holiday season, you need to get that situated as soon as possible. Many childcare providers fill up fast during the holiday season. If you and your ex live near each other, it may be beneficial for you to work with each other to determine one consistent childcare plan for the children. Be sure to discuss finances if you opt for this choice.

Determine how to celebrate

You’ll have to determine how you’re going to celebrate the holidays with your children. It may be helpful to get the major days out of the way first. This means that you and your ex need to determine if you can all celebrate the main holidays as one cohesive group, or if you’re going to need to have the children split their time. Once you have that done, you can determine what other types of traditions you want to start during the holiday season.

Now is the time to grab a copy of the parenting time schedule and determine exactly when the children are going to be with you during that break. If this isn’t set or if there are any modifications that are necessary, getting it settled now is critical.
