Readers in Massachusetts are aware that for some couples the decision to divorce is a difficult one. In fact, sometimes couples file court documents to begin the divorce process, only to change their minds and attempt to rekindle their romance. Sometimes, however, the attempt at reconciliation fails and a divorce occurs. This may be what has recently happened to one celebrity couple.
The wife of actor Dennis Quaid, who is famed for his many roles in television and film, has filed to end the couples' eight-year marriage. In court records, the woman has asked for a legal separation. Some authorities indicate that this is likely because the home state of the couple requires residency for at least six months prior to seeking a divorce. The couple has only lived in their current residence for a few short months.
As a part of the legal separation, the woman is requesting spousal maintenance, sole physical custody of the couple's two young children and payment of court fees. Though these are fairly common requests in a divorce, they could bring a response from her soon-to-be ex-husband. The amount of any such payments will be determined as the legal process proceeds.
The couple first filed for divorce in the spring of this year. After attempting to save their marriage, they have now decided to go their separate ways. This decision is likely familiar to many in Massachusetts. Though the choice to end a marriage is difficult for many, it can at times be the best result for all members of a family. Families looking into dissolution could contact legal counsel to know their options going forward.
