As many who have gone through a divorce in Massachusetts know, child support is ordered in most cases of divorce where there are minor children involved. An order for child support can require that payments be made for many years. Child support, in combination with child custody agreements, can be some the most contentious aspects of a divorce.
Massachusetts readers may be interested to learn about the child support payments recently ordered in a celebrity divorce case. Ex-NFL great and Hall of Famer Deion Sanders is going through the divorce process with his wife, Pilar. They have temporarily agreed to share custody of their children over the summer. Further, the court ordered that the football player must pay $10,550 per month to his wife in child support.
In addition to the child support payments, Sanders has also been ordered to pay $3,500 monthly for the home where his wife is currently residing. Their children will also spend a portion of their time in the home.
Sanders' wife is also requesting $14,000 per month in spousal support. While there are still details to be worked out, it appears that the Sanders divorce is finally back on track and headed toward a final resolution.
Like others who have faced divorce, the Sanders have had the courts decide many of the important issues in their divorce. In some cases, couples can work through negotiations themselves. However, in many cases, the emotional issues surrounding a divorce may be too great to allow for negotiation and, as a result, a court must decide certain matters.
