Massachusetts residents may be interested to learn of yet another Hollywood divorce -- this time involving actor Daniel Baldwin and his wife. Initially, Baldwin filed for divorce and a restraining order from his wife in July of this year but the two agreed to dismiss the divorce petition in August. However, his wife has now filed divorce papers in Oregon.
High-asset divorces usually involve contentious issues and large sums of money, and this divorce would seem to be no exception. Baldwin's wife is seeking sole custody of the couple's children and she wants her husband to pay $4,000 per month in child support. Moreover, she is seeking half of all his earnings, in addition to 50 percent of a $100,000 payday that Baldwin is reportedly set to make on a film in Australia. She also wants the court to force her husband to take out a $1 million life insurance policy with the kids as beneficiaries.
Earlier this year Baldwin filed for divorce on the same day his wife was arrested for driving under the influence and violating her probation. At the time, Baldwin took custody of the couple's 3-year-old and 20-month-old daughters. Baldwin claimed that his wife was constantly drunk and abusive toward him.
No information was available about the circumstances leading to the new divorce filings, but the wife's divorce papers claimed irreconcilable differences led to "the irremediable breakdown of their marriage." While the sums involved may seem huge, a divorce involving wealthy partners will usually result in the division of significant assets. No doubt, both parties will benefit from the advice of legal counsel, who may be able to ensure as equitable a division as possible for their respective clients.
