We can help with child custody matters

Child custody is a very difficult but necessary facet of divorce for many Massachusetts families. Massachusetts courts decide child custody and visitation rights in accordance with the child's best interests, but they also try to ensure the plan works for both parents.

How does income determine child support payments?

Child support is a monetary amount based on a calculation by Massachusetts family courts, which is intended to cover the economic needs of a child after a divorce, or if the parents are unmarried and living in separate households. Payments are made to the custodial parent who provides the primary residence for the child. Child support ensures both that the child's needs are met and that the parents are jointly involved in caring for the child.

Confronting the potential issues with MA same-sex divorce

For same-sex couples in Massachusetts, one of their life goals was to have the ability to marry legally and have all the same rights under the law as male and female couples do. However, what many are finding is that the risk of getting married also carries with it the risk of divorce, if the union does not work out. While the excitement of being allowed to marry could be viewed as clouding the judgment of those who decide to take that step, that does not alter the issues that could arise when a same-sex divorce becomes inevitable.

Massachusetts children may be confused about child custody

For Massachusetts children, the divorce of their parents may be difficult for them to understand. Furthermore, the idea of child custody agreements and what it means for them and their relationships with their parents may be even more confusing. As such, parents may want to ensure that their children understand how divorce was the right choice for the family and how custody agreements will affect them.
